When you are ready to start on the journey of finding the right retirement community, there’s a few ways to be sure you’re making the best possible choice.
First, determine what is important to you. Are the amenities the biggest deal breaker? Some folks want a covered parking spot for their vehicle, some want a lot of planned activities, some want a chapel or church on the property, some want a golf course, some want a pool with swim classes. How important is pharmacy delivery to you? There’s lots of things to consider. A pro’s and con’s checklist is a great way to make sure you’re not forgetting anything while finding the right retirement community.
Also, as you plan for a time in the future when you won’t be driving yourself, make sure to ask what level of car service is offered at each community. It’s also a good idea to find out the distance from your doctor offices to the property; some locations offer unlimited free rides within 10 miles of the property, some offer one or two free rides each month within 2 miles of the property and you pay for any others, some offer a weekly shuttle bus to and from the local grocery store.
You are making a decision about where you want to enjoy your golden years. The community you choose should make you feel welcome, safe, and taken care of. You will know you are home when you find a community that you are as excited to move into as the day you moved into your first home.
